If you are a musical theatre actor learning to read sheet music, please do not start by trying to memorize every symbol on the page. That is a great way to make yourself hate reading music. Start with one question: What information on this page is actually useful to me? For a performer, quite a lot of it is. The notes tell you where the melody moves. The rhythm tells you when those notes happen. Measure numbers help everybody in the room talk about the same spot in the music.

No, you do not have to read music to be a musical theatre actor. There are working performers who are not strong music readers.
